Islamabad to host city parade at D-Chowk on Independence Day
ISLAMABAD, Aug 13 (APP): The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration will jointly organise the “Islamabad City Parade 2026” at D-Chowk on Friday as part of Independence Day celebrations.
The public event will begin after 5pm and entry will be free. Separate enclosures will be provided for families, while comprehensive security and other arrangements have been made for the participants.
The parade will feature contingents of Islamabad Police, performances by renowned singers including Nimra Mehra and Sahir Ali Bagga, and appearances by other artists. A puppet show, colourful floats, mascots, folk performances and fireworks will also be part of the programme.
Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Sohail Ashraf visited D-Chowk along with senior officers to review preparations and rehearsals for the event.
Speaking to the media during the visit, Mr Ashraf said D-Chowk held fond memories for many people as national parades had been held there on March 23 in the past before the tradition was discontinued.
He said the parade was being revived and would be open to the public, adding that special arrangements had been made for families.
“The routes leading to D-Chowk will be completely open for those attending the event,” he said.
Mr Ashraf said a “historic” fireworks display would be held at the venue, while various bands and folk artists would also perform.
Around 6,000 seats have been arranged for the public, he said, adding that the venue would have sufficient space even if the turnout reached 15,000 people.
He said medical camps would be established at the venue and separate seating arrangements would be available for families. Wheelchairs would also be provided to persons with disabilities if required.
The CDA and ICT administration have appealed to citizens to participate in the Independence Day celebrations with enthusiasm, describing the event as one of the largest public gatherings in the history of the capital.
