RAWALPINDI, Aug 12 (APP):Three police personnel have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a conspiracy to facilitate the escape of a prisoner in the Mandra area, following directives from City Police Officer (CPO) Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera.
The arrested officials have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Tauqeer Hussain, Head Constable Mehboob Khan and Constable Qasim.
According to police, the case was registered at Mandra Police Station under sections relating to terrorism, criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, resistance against police and other offences.
Prisoner Hamad, who was facing several serious criminal cases, had been brought from Jhelum Jail to a court in Rawalpindi. The escape allegedly took place while he was being taken back after the court proceedings.
Police said some officials and associates of the prisoner had allegedly planned the escape in advance and shifted Hamad into a private vehicle. When Mandra police received information and attempted to intercept the vehicle, the fleeing prisoner and his accomplices allegedly opened fire at the police team.
Police subsequently arrested one of Hamad’s alleged accomplices, identified as Daniyal, from the area. A Kalashnikov was also recovered from his possession, according to police.
Search operations and raids at various locations are under way to apprehend the escaped prisoner and his remaining associates.
CPO Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera said the escaped prisoner was notorious and involved in several serious criminal cases and vowed that Hamad and his accomplices would be arrested and brought to justice.
He further directed that those involved in assisting or sheltering criminal elements would face strict action, stressing that police would not tolerate any support or patronage of criminals.
