PFA seizes 12-maund adulterated red chilli, 4,000 gutka sachets
MULTAN, Aug 12 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) intensified crackdown on adulterated spices and banned food items and seized more than 12 maunds of adulterated red chilli and destroyed 4,000 sachets of banned gutka in Lodhran and Vehari.
The operations were conducted under the supervision of the Director Operations South on the directions of PFA Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmed.
In Lodhran, the PFA team raided a grocery store in the Old Grain Market and recovered a large quantity of red chilli powder. Initial testing revealed the presence of artificial colouring in the chilli, which was reportedly intended for supply to various grocery stores and food outlets.
Samples were collected and sent to the laboratory for final analysis. Following the detection of adulteration, the substandard spices were seized and an FIR was registered against the store owner.
In a separate operation in Vehari, the PFA team raided a gutka dealer in Circular road, Mohalla Purani City, Mailsi. The banned gutka had been concealed inside a house. The officials recovered around 4,000 sachets of gutka, which were subsequently destroyed, while an FIR was registered against the dealer.
PFA Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmed said that eliminating adulteration and food fraud was among the authority’s top priorities.
He warned that strict action would continue against those involved in manufacturing, storing or selling adulterated and banned food products.
