Health Minister inaugurates health food kiosk to promote healthy food at workplace

ISLAMABAD, Aug 12 (APP):Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Syed Mustafa Kamal, on Wednesday inaugurates Lifestyle Medicine Health Kiosk at Ministry of Health, here, aiming to serve healthier food choices prepared without processed food items, including white sugar, and would utilize wholesome ingredients, wheat-based products and healthy organic materials.
The Federal Minister for Health was accompanied by the Federal Secretary, Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, and Dr. Zafar Mirza President Pakistan Association of lifestyle Medicine.
The Health Kiosk has been sponsored by the Culinary Arts Department of Riphah International University as an initiative to promote healthy eating and lifestyle practices.
The initiative aims to encourage healthier dietary habits and contribute towards the prevention and mitigation of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister stated that the initiative would provide healthier food options within the workplace and support efforts to address major risk factors associated with non-communicable diseases.
He highlighted that promoting healthy dietary choices could assist in controlling obesity and hypertension and contribute to a healthier lifestyle among the public and government employees.
Kamal further emphasized the need to expand and replicate the Health Kiosk initiative in other Federal Ministries and public sector institutions, so that healthy and nutritious food options could be made more accessible and the concept of lifestyle medicine could be promoted on a wider scale.
Dr Zafar Mirza said, “There should be no more unhealthy biscuits and bakery items and ultra processed foods in official meetings at the ministry. Pakistan Association of Lifestyle Medicine is proud to be part of the National Taskforce on Lifestyle Medicine which recommended the creation of health foods kiosk at the ministry and ultimately in every government office.”
The initiate is a joint venture of Ministry, Riphah Institute of Hospitality and Culinary Arts and Pakistan Association of Lifestyle Medicine.
