Pakistan Ulema Council to observe August 14 as ‘Day of Independence, Thanksgiving, Unity of Ummah’
ISLAMABAD, Aug 11 (APP):Chairman, Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC), Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi announced that the Pakistan Ulema Council and its allied religious organizations would observe August 14 as ‘Day of Independence, Thanksgiving and Unity of Ummah’, to commemorate the recently signed Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye.
In a video message on Tuesday, Ashrafi said the historic agreement, signed in Makkah by Prime Minister, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince, Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, had generated a wave of happiness across the Muslim world and presented a practical expression of unity and solidarity among the Ummah.
He said the trilateral agreement was signed following an initiative associated with the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and represented a significant step towards strengthening cooperation and unity among Muslim countries.
The PUC chairman said on August 14, Friday sermons across Pakistan would focus on Pakistan’s stability and security, the historic role of Ulema and Mashaikh in the creation of Pakistan, the contribution of religious seminaries and mosques, and the importance of unity of the Ummah in strengthening the country and securing its future.
He urged religious scholars and Mashaikh to educate the people about the significance of the Makkah agreement and express gratitude to Allah Almighty for a major step towards Muslim unity.
Ashrafi also called for appreciation of the leadership of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye for advancing the initiative and expressed hope that efforts for greater unity and cooperation among Muslim countries would be further strengthened.
He said stronger unity among Muslim nations could help address extremism, hatred, terrorism and other challenges confronting the Muslim world, while creating greater momentum towards resolving the major issues facing the Ummah.
The PUC chairman particularly highlighted Palestine and Kashmir as two of the most important issues confronting the Muslim world and called for greater collective attention and efforts towards their resolution.
Ashrafi extended his appeal beyond Pakistan, urging Ulema, Mashaikh, preachers, religious speakers and scholars around the world to dedicate their sermons and addresses on August 14 to the themes of unity, gratitude and solidarity.
He urged them to highlight the sacrifices and contributions of Ulema and Mashaikh, as well as the role of seminaries, mosques and religious platforms in the struggle for Pakistan and in promoting unity among Muslims.
The PUC chairman said the recently signed Makkah agreement should be viewed as an important opportunity to advance Muslim unity and called upon the religious community to extend its full support to the initiative while expressing gratitude to Allah Almighty for a historic development.
“The message of August 14 should be one of unity, gratitude, peace and solidarity, with a renewed commitment to strengthening Pakistan and the wider Muslim Ummah,” he maintained.
