China-Pakistan Academic Ties Deepen as UOG Researchers Join Tsinghua Summer School
BEIJING, Aug 10 (APP):Tsinghua University has welcomed researchers from the University of Gujrat (UOG), Pakistan, to the 2026 International Summer School on “Complex Systems in the Earth System,” being held in Beijing from August 3 to 15.
Jointly hosted by Tsinghua University and the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the programme offers an international platform for scientific exchange on complex systems, climate science, modelling, resilience and sustainability.
Led by programme chairs Prof. Deliang Chen, Prof. Xiaosong Chen and Prof. Xin Li, the summer school has brought together researchers and experts from institutions across multiple countries, with Pakistan’s participation adding a new dimension to the growing scientific cooperation between China and Pakistan.
The University of Gujrat is represented by two tenured professors, Prof. Dr. Ghulam Nabi and Prof. Dr. Sammer Fatima, along with Assistant Professor Dr. Mubashar Hussain. Their participation marks a proud milestone for UOG and reflects the university’s deepening engagement with leading Chinese academic institutions.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zahoor ul Haq has consistently encouraged international faculty exposure, research networking and institutional partnerships, while Prof. Dr. Audil Rashid, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Director of ORIC, has been actively cultivating academic links in climate change, environmental sustainability and related emerging research areas, CEN reported.
Prof. Dr. Audil Rashid, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Director of ORIC said that the current engagement builds on an earlier initiative supported by the Higher Education Commission’s CPEC Unit, under which Dr. Wei Li, Associate Professor at Tsinghua University’s Department of Earth System Science, visited UOG in April 2026 to conduct training on “Climate-Smart Development and Carbon Neutrality Strategies in the Context of CPEC.” Prof. Dr. Audil Rashid served as focal person for that programme, which helped establish direct academic interaction between UOG researchers and Tsinghua University. The subsequent participation of three UOG faculty members in Beijing illustrates how such institutional initiatives can mature into sustained academic mobility and research networking.
The development also underscores the broader educational dimension of the China-Pakistan partnership and the objectives of the CPEC Consortium of Universities. Expanding exchanges between Chinese and Pakistani universities in areas such as climate change, Earth system science, carbon neutrality and sustainability are expected to strengthen scientific capacity while creating opportunities for joint research, faculty exchange and postgraduate training. UOG regards its growing relationship with Chinese academia as an important contribution to the people-to-people and knowledge partnership between Pakistan and China.
