KMU, Regional Blood Centre sign MoU to promote blood donation, student training
Dera Ismail Khan , Aug 09 (APP):Khyber Medical University (KMU), Dera Ismail Khan Campus, and the Regional Blood Centre DIKhan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote voluntary blood donation, provide practical training to medical students and jointly organise awareness programmes on blood safety and transfusion-related issues.
The MoU was signed by Manager Regional Blood Centre Dr. Muhammad Rizwan Rajput and Director KMU Dera Ismail Khan Campus Dr. Arif Saleem Khattak.
Under the agreement, students of KMU Dera Ismail Khan Campus would receive practical and technical training at the Regional Blood Centre, enabling them to gain exposure to blood donation, screening, laboratory procedures and safe transfusion practices.
The two institutions would also organise regular voluntary blood donation camps at the university campus to encourage students and other members of the academic community to donate blood voluntarily.
The MoU also provides for joint seminars, workshops and awareness programmes focusing on blood-related diseases, hereditary disorders, safe blood transfusion and the importance of voluntary blood donation.
During the visit, Dr. Arif Saleem Khattak was taken on a detailed tour of different sections of the Regional Blood Centre, including the reception, blood donation section, laboratory and other service units.
He was briefed about the modern facilities and equipment available at the centre and the blood transfusion services established with the support of the German government.
Regional Blood Centre Health Education Officer Muhammad Sajjad Khan briefed the visiting official about the centre’s services, public awareness initiatives and operational mechanisms.
Medical Officer Dr. Rida and Administrative Officer Nasir Khan were also present on the occasion.
The collaboration is aimed at strengthening linkages between medical education and blood transfusion services while promoting a culture of voluntary blood donation among young people and enhancing public awareness about safe blood and transfusion practices.
