Symposium held at GIKI Swabi to highlight significance of mineral sector
PESHAWAR, Aug 08 (APP): A national symposium titled “Minerals for Prosperity: Opportunities, Challenges and the Way Forward” was held at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI) of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIK Institute) in Swabi.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Mines Arif Ahmad Zai was the chief guest at the event that was also attended by experts, faculty members and students from Abbottabad University, FATA University, GIK Institute, AST and other universities.
The symposium provided a platform for detailed discussions on the effective utilization of the province’s mineral resources, mineral testing, strengthening analytical capabilities and developing stronger linkages between academia and industry.
Speaking on the occasion, provincial minister Arif Ahmad Zai said that our province was rich in natural resources and valuable minerals but modern scientific research, quality mineral testing and strong collaboration between industry and academia were essential to derive maximum benefit from these resources.
He emphasized that the involvement of students and utilization of their research capabilities were crucial for accelerating development in the minerals sector as well as strengthening the provincial economy.
He said stronger cooperation among educational institutions, researchers and industry stakeholders would help transform the province’s mineral wealth into sustainable economic opportunities.
