PU History Department organises seminar on Babar’s legacy
LAHORE, Aug 07 (APP): The Punjab University’s Department of History & Pakistan Studies commemorating the 500th anniversary of the establishment of Mughal rule in India, marking the historic arrival of Zahiruddin Muhammad Babar as the founder of the Mughal dynasty.
The department finds the anniversary an important opportunity to encourage historical dialogue, interdisciplinary research and scholarly exchange. Dean Faculty of Arts & Humanities Prof Dr Mahboob Hussain, Chairperson Department of History Prof Dr Rukhsana Iftihar, Professors from different universities of Uzbekistan, faculty members and others were present at the ceremony. Lectures by distinguished historians, research presentations, a panel discussion, an exhibition of manuscripts and photographs, and student activities may form part of the celebrations.
The event can also provide an opportunity to engage with contemporary historiography and encourage young researchers to reassess the Mughal period through primary sources and modern historical scholarship.
Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Iftikhar highlighted the historical and cultural legacy of Babar in Pakistan, while Prof. Dr. Mahboob Hussain expressed his gratitude to the Uzbek delegates for their participation.
Later, the Uzbek delegation called on Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali. During the meeting, the Vice Chancellor emphasized that international academic collaborations are vital for advancing research excellence, fostering innovation, and strengthening global academic engagement.
