KP, World Bank agree to accelerate water, sanitation projects in MDs
PESHAWAR, Aug 07 (APP): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the World Bank on Friday agreed to expedite the implementation of clean drinking water and sanitation projects in the merged tribal districts (MDs) while reviewing progress on the KP Rural Investment and Institutional Support Programme (KP-RIISP).
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Provincial Minister for Public Health Engineering Fazal Shakoor Khan and a World Bank delegation led by Carlo Medici and Robert Wrobel.
The discussions focused on ongoing development schemes, effective utilisation of funds and priorities for the programme’s next phase.
The provincial government also proposed extending KP-RIISP to the settled districts to broaden access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities.
The minister further sought World Bank support for the construction of flood protection embankments in Charsadda to reduce the impact of seasonal flooding.
The World Bank delegation appreciated the progress achieved under the programme and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the province’s development initiatives. Both sides stressed timely execution, transparency and adherence to international standards in implementing the projects.
Fazal Shakoor Khan said providing safe drinking water and improved sanitation remained a top priority of the provincial government, adding that the programme would bring lasting improvements to public health and the quality of life in underserved communities.
