CHICHAWATNI, Aug 6 (APP):Commissioner, Sahiwal Dr. Asif Tufail on Thursday launched the Punjab government’s tree plantation campaign and said trees played a vital role in reducing air pollution, lowering temperatures and protecting the public health.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony after planting a sapling on the lawn of the Commissioner’s Office, Tufail said trees not only enhance the environment but were also essential in mitigating the effects of climate change.
He urged the people to plant at least one tree under the campaign and take responsibility for its care, stressing that public participation was key to expanding green cover.
“Plant trees and help beautify your city and country,” he said, adding that increasing the number of trees was an urgent necessity to address the adverse impacts of climate change.
Additional Commissioner (Coordination), Dr. Saifullah Bhatti, Director Development and Finance, Shafeeq Ahmed Dogar, Assistant Commissioner (General) Ghulam Hussain Bhatti and other officials also participated in the campaign by planting saplings.
The commissioner also called on the public to help keep their surroundings clean, adding environmental protection was a shared responsibility to ensure a healthier future for coming generations.
