Rain, isolated heavy falls likely in upper parts of country on Thursday: PMD

ISLAMABAD, Aug 05 (APP): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast mainly hot and humid weather across most parts of the country on Thursday, with rain-wind/thundershowers expected in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad and upper and central Punjab.

Isolated heavy falls are also likely during the forecast period.

According to the PMD, Islamabad is expected to remain hot and humid during the daytime, while partly cloudy conditions with rain and thundershowers are likely during the morning and night. Heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, hot and humid weather will prevail in most districts. However, rain-wind/thundershowers are likely in Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Malakand, Buner, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera and Waziristan, with isolated heavy falls expected.

Punjab is also likely to experience mainly hot and humid weather, while isolated rain-wind/thundershowers are expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Talagang, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sargodha, Khushab, Layyah, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Faisalabad, Jhang, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore and Sheikhupura. Heavy rainfall may occur at isolated locations.

In Sindh, hot and humid weather is expected to persist in most districts, while coastal areas are likely to remain partly cloudy.

Balochistan will also witness mainly hot and humid conditions, although isolated rain-wind/thundershowers are expected in Zhob, Barkhan and adjoining areas during the evening and night.

Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are likely to experience partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thundershowers.

During the past 24 hours, hot and humid weather prevailed over most parts of the country. However, scattered rain-wind/thundershowers occurred in Islamabad, the Pothohar region and Gilgit-Baltistan, while isolated rainfall was recorded in northeast Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir.

The highest rainfall was recorded in Rawalpindi, where Gawalmandi received 46 mm and Katcheri 43 mm, followed by Babusar with 39 mm and Bokra in Islamabad with 27 mm.

The highest maximum temperatures recorded during the day were 45C in Sibbi, 44C in Dadu and 43C in Turbat, the PMD added.
