FAISALABAD, Aug 05 (APP): Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) President Farooq Yousaf Sheikh on Wednesday urged the international community to play an effective role in ensuring implementation of United Nations resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that a just and lasting settlement of the longstanding dispute was imperative for durable peace, regional stability and sustainable economic development in South Asia.
Addressing a rally held in connection with Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir (Kashmir Exploitation Day), he described August 05, 2019 as a tragic day in the history of South Asia.
He said that India’s unilateral revocation of the special constitutional status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) was a violation of United Nations resolutions and international law.
He said that Kashmiri people had been striving for decades to secure their fundamental human rights and right of self-determination, but they continued to face oppression, human rights violations and restrictions on freedom of expression.
He said that Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir served as an important occasion to draw global attention to the humanitarian situation in the disputed territory.
Expressing solidarity with the people of Kashmir, he said that people of Pakistan stood firmly with their Kashmiri brothers and sisters and they would continue extending moral, diplomatic and political support to their cause.
The FCCI President called upon the United Nations, the international community and global human rights organizations to take notice of human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and adopt practical measures to enable Kashmiri people to exercise their right of self-determination in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions.
He said that sustainable peace, stability and economic prosperity in the region depended on a fair and lasting resolution of Kashmir dispute.
The business community believed that an atmosphere based on peace, dialogue and mutual respect was indispensable for regional growth, investment and economic cooperation, he added.
He also prayed for peace, freedom and prosperity for Kashmiri people and expressed hope that the region would soon witness lasting peace.
FCCI Vice President Engineer Asim Munir, former President Rana Muhammad Sikandar Azam Khan, Executive Members Muhammad Ali and Mirza Zahid Iqbal, former Senior Vice President Mian Tanveer Ahmad, Abdul Rehman, members of business community and officials of Social Welfare Department were also present on the occasion.
