Islamabad to Get Two New Underpasses as Mohsin Naqvi Pushes Infrastructure, Emergency Services and Revenue Reforms

ISLAMABAD, Aug 05 (APP):The federal government has unveiled a fresh push to accelerate infrastructure development, strengthen emergency response services and improve the financial sustainability of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi directing officials to fast-track key public projects across the federal capital.

Chairing a high-level meeting at CDA Headquarters, Naqvi reviewed the progress of ongoing development schemes and discussed a range of new projects aimed at improving urban mobility and public services. He announced that two new underpasses would be constructed to ease traffic congestion and facilitate smoother movement across Islamabad. Construction of the Kashmir Chowk Underpass and the Faisal Mosque Underpass is scheduled to begin next month.

The minister also expressed strong displeasure over the continued absence of a fully functional Emergency 1122 system in Islamabad, describing the situation as unacceptable. He directed authorities to undertake emergency measures to establish an effective Capital Emergency Services institution without delay and instructed officials to complete all legal formalities so that work on four new emergency service centres could begin as soon as possible.

The meeting also focused on strengthening the CDA’s financial position through sustainable revenue generation. Various proposals to increase the authority’s permanent revenue stream were reviewed, with Naqvi stressing the need for a long-term revenue model that would enable the civic agency to achieve greater financial self-reliance.

He observed that while development projects remain a top priority, ensuring the institution’s financial stability is equally important. The minister instructed officials to expedite practical revenue-enhancing initiatives and ensure measurable progress in the near future.

Naqvi further directed that work on the Expressway Service Road Project be completed strictly within the approved timeline, underscoring the importance of timely execution of public infrastructure projects.

Officials also briefed the meeting on the progress of several mega development projects underway in Islamabad and outlined future planning initiatives aimed at improving the capital’s infrastructure, public services and urban management. The discussions reflected the government’s broader focus on enhancing civic facilities, reducing traffic bottlenecks and building a financially resilient municipal administration capable of supporting Islamabad’s growing development needs.
