CM lauds Services Hospital team on winning global Diamond Award for stroke care
LAHORE, Aug 03 (APP):Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Monday congratulated the management and neurology team of Services Hospital Lahore after the hospital received the prestigious WSO/Angels Diamond Award for excellence in stroke care, describing the honour as international recognition of Punjab’s ongoing efforts to improve public healthcare.
The award, presented under the Angels Initiative in collaboration with the World Stroke Organization (WSO) and the European Stroke Organisation (ESO), recognises hospitals that meet internationally benchmarked standards in the timely diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients.
With this achievement, the Neurology Department of Services Hospital has become the first public sector hospital in Pakistan to earn the Diamond Award for Excellence in Stroke Care, reflecting its adherence to global best practices in emergency stroke management and patient outcomes.
The CM congratulated Principal SIMS Prof Dr Zahra Khanam, Head of Neurology Prof Dr Muhammad Adnan Aslam, and the entire medical team for the landmark achievement. She also praised the hospital’s Stroke Emergency Centre for delivering high-quality care and improving recovery outcomes for stroke patients.
Services Hospital was recognised for its outstanding performance, particularly in achieving internationally recommended door-to-needle time for thrombolysis, a critical indicator in the emergency treatment of stroke. The award also acknowledges the hospital’s provision of timely, comprehensive and evidence-based care for stroke patients.
CM Maryam Nawaz said the Diamond Award was not merely a certificate of excellence but a recognition of the thousands of lives saved through prompt diagnosis, timely intervention and modern medical facilities under the Punjab Stroke Programme. She expressed gratitude over the international recognition, saying it was a matter of pride that Services Hospital had joined the ranks of the world’s leading stroke centres.
The CM termed the award a historic milestone for Pakistan’s public healthcare sector and expressed her government’s commitment to further strengthening stroke care services across Punjab.
She said the recognition by the internationally renowned Angels Initiative would encourage greater innovation, quality improvement and excellence in neurology services, while helping elevate stroke care in Punjab to internationally recognised standards
