A major step towards strengthening postgraduate medical education in southern Pakistan was taken as a high-level delegation from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) visited Gomal Medical College (GMC), Dera Ismail Khan, to inspect the proposed site for the establishment of a CPSP Regional Office.

Dera Ismail Khan , Jul 31 (APP):A major step towards strengthening postgraduate medical education in southern Pakistan was taken as a high-level delegation from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) visited Gomal Medical College (GMC), Dera Ismail Khan, to inspect the proposed site for the establishment of a CPSP Regional Office.
The delegation comprised CPSP consultants, members of the engineering team, and Secretary Administration CPSP Karachi, Col. Dr. Shahid, who reviewed the proposed location and discussed the project’s implementation with the college administration.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the regional office is expected to be held within the next few weeks, paving the way for a landmark initiative aimed at enhancing postgraduate medical education and professional development in the region.
Once operational, the CPSP Regional Office will facilitate postgraduate residency programmes, conduct CPSP examinations, promote research and academic activities, organize Continuing Medical Education (CME) programmes for consultants, and provide professional training opportunities for healthcare professionals.
The facility is expected to benefit doctors and medical institutions across southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and southern Punjab by improving access to quality postgraduate medical education and academic services closer to their home institutions.
Talking to APP, Dean/Chief Executive of Gomal Medical College Prof. Dr. Naseem Saba, welcomed the initiative, describing it as a historic milestone for the institution and the region.
“This project reflects our commitment to strengthening medical education and creating greater opportunities for postgraduate training, research, and academic excellence.
The establishment of a CPSP Regional Office at Gomal Medical College will significantly facilitate young doctors and consultants, reducing the need to travel to distant cities for examinations, academic activities, and professional development,” she said.
Dr. Naseem Sabah added that the college would continue working in close collaboration with national institutions to enhance the quality of medical education, research, and patient care, ensuring that the region’s healthcare workforce is equipped to meet future challenges.
She expressed optimism that the project would open a new chapter in postgraduate medical education and contribute to producing highly trained specialists for the country.
