SIALKOT, Jul 29 (APP):Deputy Commissioner Awais Mushtaq supervised the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) emergency drainage operation after Sialkot received an average of 174 millimetres of rainfall on Wednesday, according to a spokesperson for the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
The spokesperson said the operation was carried out on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Deputy Commissioner Awais Mushtaq and WASA Managing Director Faisal Shehzad remained in the field throughout the rainfall to monitor drainage work and ensure the timely removal of rainwater.
During the operation, rainwater was drained from 18 low-lying areas, including Church Road, Mujahid Road, Shahabpura, Allama Iqbal Chowk, Sardar Begum Teaching Hospital Road, Khadim Ali Road, Darah Araian and Kutchery Chowk. The operation helped restore traffic flow and normal public activity on major roads.
Deputy Commissioner Awais Mushtaq said all available resources, including WASA’s dewatering machines, heavy machinery and field teams, were utilised to ensure the early clearance of rainwater. He said complaints received from citizens were addressed promptly and response teams remained active at all affected locations.
The deputy commissioner appreciated the coordinated efforts of WASA, the district administration and other departments, saying that effective planning, continuous monitoring and timely action helped provide maximum relief to citizens despite the heavy rainfall
