ISLAMABAD, Jul 28 (APP):Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Danyal Chaudhry on Tuesday said Pakistan and the United States were moving towards stronger bilateral relations through parliamentary diplomacy, enhanced people to people contacts and wider cooperation in trade, education and investment.
Speaking after a high level meeting between the Pakistan-US Parliamentary Friendship Group and a visiting US Congressional delegation at Parliament House, Barrister Danyal said Pakistan remained committed to deepening its engagement with the United States across multiple sectors.
The meeting was led by Convener of the Pakistan-US Parliamentary Friendship Group Syed Hussain Tariq and attended by parliamentarians from different political parties, while the US delegation comprised Congressmen Ryan Zinke and Michael Baumgartner.
He said parliamentary diplomacy played a vital role in strengthening bilateral relations by promoting mutual understanding and creating new avenues for cooperation in trade, education, investment, academic exchanges and institutional partnerships.
Barrister Danyal said the Pakistani people appreciated the diplomatic role played by US President Donald Trump in helping de-escalate tensions during the recent Pakistan-India standoff, describing it as a reflection of growing trust and improving relations between the two countries.
He stressed the need to revive the Pakistan Caucus in the US Congress to further strengthen legislative engagement and institutional cooperation.
The parliamentary secretary said the visit of the US congressional delegation and its interactions with Pakistan’s leadership, including meetings with military officials, demonstrated a shared desire to expand cooperation and acknowledged Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and stability.
Rejecting a recent survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, Barrister Danyal said its findings did not reflect ground realities.
He maintained that Pakistan-US relations, built over decades, are based on mutual respect, shared interests and sustained diplomatic engagement, adding that ties between the two countries continued to move in a positive direction.
Other parliamentarians attending the meeting also rejected the survey findings and termed them unrepresentative of public opinion.
