KP housing minister prioritises tree conservation, civic amenities in housing schemes
PESHAWAR, Jul 28 (APP):Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Housing Dr Amjad Ali on Tuesday directed the Housing Department to prioritise tree conservation, large-scale plantation and the provision of essential civic amenities in all housing schemes across the province.
Chairing a review meeting on ongoing development projects at his office, the minister was briefed on the progress, challenges and future plans for various housing schemes being executed by the department.
The meeting reviewed the status of major projects, including New Peshawar Valley, Jalozai Housing Scheme, Hangu Township, Nowshera Mega City, Jarma Housing Scheme, Hayatabad High-Rise Flats Project and Dangram Swat Housing Scheme.
Addressing the meeting, Dr Amjad Ali said housing projects should provide residents with quality living standards by ensuring timely availability of basic facilities, including water supply, electricity, educational institutions, healthcare services, mosques and other essential infrastructure.
He directed the authorities to facilitate the establishment of franchises of reputable educational institutions in the Jalozai Housing Scheme to provide quality education to residents within the community.
Highlighting environmental sustainability, the minister instructed officials to protect existing trees and plants while launching an extensive plantation campaign in all housing schemes.
He said creating green and environmentally friendly residential communities was among the government’s key priorities.
Regarding Hangu Township, Dr Amjad Ali directed officials to ensure the early completion of the boundary wall and instructed contractors to complete the work within the stipulated timeframe. He also ordered immediate measures to address water and electricity issues in the scheme.
The minister further directed officials to intensify plantation activities in the Jarma Housing Scheme and other projects, while ensuring proper monitoring and maintenance of newly planted trees.
Referring to the Hayatabad High-Rise Flats Project, he said the quality of construction and modern facilities offered by the Pakhtunkhwa Housing Authority had attracted growing interest from overseas Pakistanis, reflecting confidence in the department’s housing initiatives.
The meeting also discussed proposals for leasing and marketing commercial flats under the Peshawar One project to improve its commercial viability.
Concluding the meeting, Dr Amjad Ali instructed the department to expedite the tendering process and avoid unnecessary delays so that housing projects could be completed within the prescribed timelines and made available to the public at the earliest.
