Japan-UNICEF collaborate to supports millions of children, includes US$ 6.48 million flood response in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, Jul 28 (APP):Japan and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have renewed their commitment to working together for children in Pakistan, highlighting a partnership that has delivered support across health, education, nutrition, child protection, and sanitation services.
The cooperation also included a US$ 6.48 million contribution from Japan after the 2022 floods, helping affected families in Sindh and Balochistan gain access to clean water, healthcare, nutrition, and sanitation facilities.
Japan remains one of UNICEF’s largest and longest-standing partners worldwide. In Pakistan, both sides have worked together for many years to improve services for children and families while responding to emergencies and supporting the country’s efforts to eradicate polio.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, Akamatsu Shuichi said the partnership was based on a shared commitment to ensuring that every child has access to a healthy, safe, and dignified life.
The Ambassador said that Japan’s support for children has remained a key part of its international cooperation efforts.
The ambassador also highlighted Japan’s role in Pakistan’s polio eradication campaign, stating that Japanese support has helped vaccination drives reach millions of children, including those living in remote areas.
Acting UNICEF Representative in Pakistan, Sharmeela Rasool said Japan’s support has played an important role in helping children and families during emergencies while also strengthening public services.
She noted that the partnership has enabled millions of children to receive essential support and has contributed to the development of systems that could continue serving communities in the future.
Officials said Japan’s continued investment helped maintain essential services for children during and after emergencies, while supporting long-term recovery and improving services for families across Pakistan.
