Minister orders fast-track completion of key bridge projects in Sialkot
LAHORE, Jul 28 (APP):Punjab Minister for Communication & Works (C&W) Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharth,
accompanied by the C&W Secretary, inspected two key under-construction bridge
projects in Sialkot district and directed the officers and contractors to complete
both schemes by August 15 for opening to traffic.
Chief Engineer Highways North, the Superintending Engineer Highways Circle
Gujranwala, the Superintending Engineer Mechanical, officials of the Bridge Directorate
and other officers concerned were present during the inspection, said a handout issued
here on Tuesday.
The delegation first visited the submersible bridge under construction at Kilometer 2
on the Sialkot–Saidpur–Bajwat Road. Executive Engineer Highways Sialkot informed
the minister that all 30 piles, eight pier caps and two abutment caps had been completed,
while seven of the nine bridge slabs had also been constructed.
Later, the minister inspected the bridge being built over Dyk Nala on the Budhiana–Chawinda–Zafarwal Road. Officials briefed him that all 20 piles, 36 girders, eight pier caps and two abutment caps
had been completed. Girder launching work was currently in progress, while slab construction
had yet to begin.
Expressing concern over delays in the completion of both projects, Malik Sohaib Ahmad
Bharth directed the relevant officers and contractors to expedite the remaining work and
ensure both bridges were completed and opened for traffic by August 15.
He said the Punjab government, under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif,
was committed to the timely completion of development projects while ensuring high
construction standards and providing safe and efficient travel facilities to the public.
The provincial minister warned that unnecessary delays and substandard work would
not be tolerated and instructed all concerned officers to achieve the assigned targets
within the stipulated timeframe.
