SARGODHA, Jul 26 (APP): The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Sunday destroyed various vegetables cultivated on a one-acre tract of land using sewage water in Chak 127 NB of Tehsil Sillanwali as part of its “From Farm to Plate” safety mission.
According to a PFA spokesperson, a food safety team utilized a tractor to uproot the standing crops of melons, pumpkins, and zucchini, which were being irrigated with contaminated wastewater.
The spokesperson highlighted that the cultivation of any edible crop using sewage water was strictly prohibited throughout the province to safeguard public health and prevent the spread of diseases.
The authority further stated that such crackdown operations were essential to prevent toxic and unhygienic food items from entering the local markets of Sargodha and its surrounding areas.
Citizens have been urged to play their civic role in ensuring food safety by reporting any illegal cultivation practices or unhygienic food setups to the PFA via its dedicated toll-free helpline 1223, the spokesperson added.
