ISLAMABAD, Jul 26 (APP): As the mango season reaches its peak, viral mango cake has emerged as one of the most sought-after desserts in the federal capital, with residents flocking to bakeries and cafés to savour the seasonal treat.
From family gatherings and birthday celebrations to casual evening tea, fresh mango cake has become a favourite among Islamabad residents, driven by the availability of locally grown mangoes and the growing influence of social media food trends.
Major bakeries across the city have introduced seasonal fresh mango cakes as limited-time summer offerings. Many prepare the dessert with layers of soft sponge, fresh cream and chunks of ripe mangoes, while others offer premium versions topped with mango glaze, fresh fruit and whipped cream.
Bakeries have reported a noticeable surge in demand, particularly on weekends, as customers increasingly prefer desserts made with fresh mangoes rather than artificial flavours.
Talking to APP, Alizay, a resident of Sector G-10, said this year’s viral mango cake trend has made the mango season even more exciting.
“I wait for the mango season every year, but seeing mango cakes all over social media inspired me to try one. Its fresh flavour, soft texture and natural sweetness make it the perfect summer dessert,” she said.
Another resident, Akhtar, from Sector F-6, told APP that this year’s viral mango cake trend had made the dessert a regular feature at his family’s celebrations.
“After seeing it all over social media, we decided to try it, and now it has become our first choice for birthdays and small family get-togethers. Everyone, especially children, loves its fresh mango flavour, and it has become one of the season’s most popular desserts,” he said.
Food enthusiasts believed the trend has been largely fuelled by Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, where local food bloggers, influencers and home bakers regularly share reviews, recipe videos and visually appealing content featuring seasonal desserts. The online buzz has encouraged more people to try mango cakes, prompting many cafés and bakeries to introduce new varieties and limited-edition flavours to meet the growing demand.
Speaking to APP, Alia, a nutritionist at a private hospital in Blue Area, advised moderation, noting that while mangoes are rich in vitamins A and C, dietary fibre and antioxidants, mango cakes also contain considerable amounts of sugar, cream and refined flour.
“Fresh mangoes provide valuable nutrients, but when combined with high amounts of sugar and cream in cakes, the calorie content increases significantly. People, particularly those with diabetes or weight-related concerns, should enjoy them in moderation as part of a balanced diet,” she said.
