HYDERABAD, Jul 25 (APP): Besant Hall Cultural Centre would hold aninspiring discussion to explore the rich musical heritage of Sur Ghatu and Sur Samoondi on 30th July (Thursday). At 6.30 pm.
The Director Besant Hall Cultural Centre Sobia Ali informed here on Saturday that renowned scholars and musicians will shed light on history, poetry and enduring legacy of these classical Sufi Surs, followed by soulful performances that celebrate the spirit of Sindh.
On this occasion, eminent speakers including Dr. Sher Mehrani, Atta Channhyo, Dr Basharat Lanjwani and Saif Samejo will express their views on the topic while famous Singer Manthar and Soormiyon will also perform on Shah Latif’ Surs.
Sur Ghatu is a chapter (Sur) in the Shah jo Risalo—the master poetic compendium of the Sindhi Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai—dedicated to the lives, struggles, and spiritual symbolism of traditional river and sea fishermen.
Ghatu refers to experienced fishermen or hunters of the waters. Shah Latif uses their daily routines, courage, navigating treacherous currents, and casting nets as a profound metaphor for the spiritual seeker’s journey.
While Sur Samundi is a prominent musical chapter (sur) in the Shah Jo Risalo, the master collection of mystical poetry by the Sufi poet Shah Bhitai
