ISLAMABAD, Jul 23 (APP):The Emergency Response Committee (ERC), constituted on the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to oversee national preparedness and coordinated response during Monsoon 2026, on Thursday reviewed preparedness measures across the country and stressed stronger coordination among all response agencies to ensure timely action during emergencies.
The fourth meeting of the committee was held at the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in Islamabad. Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Prof Ahsan Iqbal chaired the meeting through a video link.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, Federal Minister for Water Resources Mian Muhammad Mueen Wattoo, Minister of State for National Food Security and Research Malik Rasheed Ahmad Khan, NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, senior officials of federal ministries and departments, provincial disaster management authorities and other stakeholders attended the meeting.
The committee reviewed the implementation status of preparedness measures undertaken by provincial authorities ahead of the ongoing monsoon season.
Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) briefed participants on the availability of relief supplies, emergency communication systems, evacuation planning and inter agency coordination mechanisms.
Prof Ahsan Iqbal appreciated the efforts of all stakeholders and underscored the importance of seamless coordination among federal and provincial institutions to support timely decision making and rapid deployment of resources during emergencies.
The meeting reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening national preparedness and ensuring a unified response framework to protect lives, livelihoods and critical infrastructure during Monsoon 2026.
