Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi has declared a high alert across the district in view of the ongoing monsoon rains and forecast of further heavy downpours.

RAWALPINDI, Jul 21 (APP): Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi has declared a high alert across the district in view of the ongoing monsoon rains and forecast of further heavy downpours.
According to Rescue 1122, rescue personnel have been deployed at Nullah Lai, Katarian, Gawalmandi and other low-lying and vulnerable areas to ensure prompt response to any emergency. The teams were maintaining round-the-clock vigilance and continuously monitoring the situation.
The emergency service said all necessary arrangements have been completed to tackle urban flooding, rising water levels in rain-fed streams and other rain-related emergencies. Rescue teams equipped with life jackets, rescue vehicles and other essential equipment have been stationed in the field to respond swiftly to any untoward incident.
Rescue officials urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during the monsoon season and strictly follow safety precautions. Parents were advised not to allow children near Nullah Lai, seasonal streams, open manholes, or electricity poles and wires during rainfall, warning that even minor negligence could lead to serious accidents.
The spokesperson also advised motorists to drive carefully at reduced speeds, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and avoid passing through waterlogged roads as far as possible. Citizens were further urged to move to safer places in case of urban flooding and refrain from taking shelter under weak or dilapidated buildings and rooftops.
Rescue 1122 also cautioned people against visiting hilly and tourist areas due to the risk of heavy rainfall, landslides and possible cloudbursts. Citizens were advised not to attempt crossing streams or flooded waterways, as strong currents could prove life-threatening.
The Rescue spokesperson asked the public to immediately call the Rescue 1122 helpline in case of any emergency, accident or need for assistance, assuring that rescue teams remain fully prepared to serve the public and respond to any emergency situation.
