LAHORE, Jul 20 (APP):A resolution regarding government jobs for dual nationals has been submitted in the Punjab Assembly (PA). The resolution demands the federal government and the Punjab government to impose a ban on dual nationals from getting government jobs.
The resolution was submitted by Muslim League (N) Member of the Punjab Assembly Amjad Ali Javed.
The text of the resolution, citing an investigative report broadcast on the media, states that about 24,000 serving employees posted in various government departments have dual nationality, while their family members are in addition to this and many people are also in the process of obtaining dual nationality.
The resolution takes the position that to obtain citizenship of any country, it is necessary to take an oath of allegiance to that country, due to which an oath of allegiance to another country can raise questions regarding loyalty to one’s own country. The text also states that in this context, persons with dual citizenship are prohibited from participating in elections.
According to the resolution, sensitive information related to the integrity of the country and important official records are in the custody of government officials and they play a fundamental role in important administrative and policy decisions, however, dual citizenship does not constitute an obstacle to their government employment under the current laws.
The resolution demands that appropriate legislation and necessary measures be taken to prohibit persons with dual citizenship from obtaining government employment.
