LAHORE, Jul 20 (APP):Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique on Monday inaugurated a state-of-the-art Biosafety Level-III (BSL-3) laboratory at the Department of Faisal Masood Biomedical Sciences, King Edward
Medical University (KEMU).
KEMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mahmood Ayaz, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Moeen, Prof Dr Syed Asghar Naqi, Dr Muhammad Umar, Prof Abrar Ashraf, CEO Prof Shoaib Nabi, Dr Aamir Jamal Gondal and Prof Nighat Yasmin attended the inauguration ceremony.
The minister also visited the extraction and post-extraction laboratories, autoclave facility, ELISA laboratory, and DNA and RNA laboratories, where Prof Nighat Yasmin briefed him on the laboratory’s advanced diagnostic and research facilities.
Built at a cost of Rs100 million, the modern BSL-3 laboratory is equipped to conduct gene sequencing of highly infectious diseases, including Covid-19.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Salman Rafique said providing quality healthcare services in government teaching hospitals remained the Punjab government’s top priority. He said the provincial government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, was committed to strengthening the healthcare system and ensuring the provision of modern medical facilities to the public.
