JCP recommends appointments, confirmations and extension of constitutional benches
ISLAMABAD, Jul 20 (APP):The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan, on Monday recommended the confirmation of judges, appointment of additional judges to the Sindh and Islamabad High Courts, and the extension of the term of the constitutional benches of the Sindh High Court.
The Commission, meeting in its respective compositions for the Sindh High Court, Islamabad High Court and Peshawar High Court at the Supreme Court building in Islamabad, considered matters relating to confirmation and appointment of judges as well as the extension of constitutional benches.
For the Sindh High Court, the Commission recommended extending the term of Additional Judge Justice Khalid Hussain Shahani for six months after considering the relevant records and evaluation material. However, it did not recommend the confirmation of Additional Judge Justice Syed Fiaz ul Hassan Shah.
The Commission also recommended extending the term of the constitutional benches of the Sindh High Court for a further three months.
It further recommended the appointment of Muhammad Humayon Khan, Advocate, Suresh Kumar, District and Sessions Judge, and Dr. Shah Nawaz Memon, Advocate, as additional judges of the Sindh High Court. Two vacant positions remained unfilled as the nominees failed to secure the required majority of the Commission’s total membership.
For the Islamabad High Court, the Commission recommended the appointment of Ayyaz Shaukat, Advocate, Shahrukh Arjumand, District and Sessions Judge, and Umair Majeed Malik, Advocate, as additional judges.
Regarding the Peshawar High Court, the Commission recommended the confirmation of Justice Ms. Farah Jamshed, Justice Inaam Ullah Khan, Justice Sabit Ullah Khan and Justice Aurangzeb as judges of the High Court after considering their records, antecedents and evaluation material.
