Faisalabad Waste Management Company (FWMC) and Suthra Punjab Agency have rejected media reports claiming that 300 supervisors and 250 rickshaw drivers had been dismissed from service, terming the reports misleading and contrary to the facts as the protesting individuals were employees of a former private contractor.
FWMC dismisses reports of mass layoffs
FAISALABAD, Jul 20 (APP): Faisalabad Waste Management Company (FWMC) and Suthra Punjab Agency have rejected media reports claiming that 300 supervisors and 250 rickshaw drivers had been dismissed from service, terming the reports misleading and contrary to the facts as the protesting individuals were employees of a former private contractor.
In an official clarification issued on Monday, the FWMC administration said the news circulating in certain newspapers regarding the alleged termination of hundreds of employees by Suthra Punjab Authority had created a misleading impression and did not reflect the actual situation.
The company clarified that the individuals staging protests were supervisors recruited and paid by the former private contractor, Care Services Consortium, and they had remained on that contractor’s payroll throughout their engagement.
It emphasized that these supervisors had never been employees of Faisalabad Waste Management Company (FWMC), nor were they associated with Suthra Punjab Authority or Suthra Punjab Agency in any employment capacity.
Responding to concerns regarding honoraria for sanitation workers who performed duties during Eidul Azha, the FWMC officials said the Punjab government would soon transfer the approved payments directly into bank accounts of the eligible workers.
According to the statement, lists of all workers who performed Eid duty had already been forwarded to the Finance Department and the process of releasing payments was expected to be completed shortly.
