DC orders accelerated pace on public welfare
RAWALPINDI, Jul 20 (APP): Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Captain (Retd) Nadeem Nasir on Monday, chaired a high-level meeting of the District Development Committee, directing all executing agencies to expedite ongoing public welfare schemes and submit immediate feasibility reports on key healthcare, infrastructure, and sports projects.
The deputy commissioner said that the district administration was fully committed to implementing Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision of public empowerment, adding that all developmental projects must be completed within their stipulated deadlines without compromising on engineering quality.
He sought an immediate progress report on the Mother and Child Hospital Rawalpindi and directed the relevant authorities to resolve the water supply bottleneck at Rawat Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital to make it fully operational.
The Clean Water Authority was instructed to immediately finalize the mapping and geo-tagging of both active and inactive filtration plants across the city to make the water supply network more effective.
Turning to youth facilities, the Deputy Commissioner directed all Assistant Commissioners to identify public lands across rural areas to set up sports grounds in every union council, noting that providing healthy activities for youth remained a top priority of the Punjab government. He added that workable proposals should be presented to upgrade school and college grounds so local citizens could utilize them after academic hours.
During the session, the Tourism Department was asked to present a comprehensive plan to promote tourism at Mahota Dam, while the Highways Department was ordered to submit cost estimations for the rehabilitation of Chakri Road.
Addressing long-standing public grievances, Captain (Retd) Nadeem Nasir instructed civic agencies to prepare a definitive feasibility report to permanently resolve the drainage issues at Biscuit Factory Chowk.
Similarly, the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) and the Chief Officer District Council were directed to upgrade waste disposal systems in Union Councils 76 to 79 and finalize the beautification scheme for Rehmatabad Graveyard Road.
He also instructed the CEO Health to immediately address the administrative gaps identified during his recent visit to Wah General Hospital, adding that educational standards, teacher training, and travel facilities for special education schools must also be upgraded.
The Deputy Commissioner concluded the session by tasking the Assistant Commissioner Taxila to identify suitable government land for new parking plazas at Raja Bazar, Commercial Market, and Jinnah Park, alongside setting up new Sahulat Bazars and public parks in Taxila and Wah Cantt to ensure the timely delivery of basic amenities to the citizens.
The meeting was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Finance & Planning), Deputy Director Development, and heads of relevant line departments to comprehensively review the progress of ongoing and proposed development initiatives across the district.
