LODHRAN, Jul 20 (APP): The district administration has initiated practical steps to implement Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s welfare initiative, “Sanjhi Sabzi – Sasti Nahi, Muft Sabzi” (Shared Vegetables – Not Cheap, Free Vegetables), introducing the unique programme in Lodhran.
A meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ashraf was held to review the implementation strategy. The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Muhammad Tayyab, Deputy Director Agriculture Malik Muhammad Zafar, and officers from various government departments.
Addressing the participants, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ashraf described the programme as a unique and revolutionary public welfare initiative of the Punjab government. He said its primary objective was to promote small-scale kitchen gardening by utilizing vacant land owned by government departments for the cultivation of seasonal local vegetables.
He directed all departments to immediately identify unused land suitable for vegetable cultivation and submit geo-tagged locations along with photographs of the designated sites. He also instructed district officers to submit progress reports on the initiative within five days.
The deputy commissioner said that vegetables grown under the programme would be distributed free of charge among departmental staff. He further directed all departments to display panaflexes and banners to promote the “Sanjhi Sabzi” programme.
He added that departments could obtain further guidance regarding the implementation of the initiative from the Deputy Director Agriculture (Extension).
