KCL to project province’s peaceful image, promote young cricket talent: Governor Kundi
PESHAWAR, Jul 18 (APP):Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Saturday said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Champions League (KCL) would project the province’s positive, peaceful and progressive image to the world while providing a platform for young cricketers to showcase their talent.
He expressed these views while speaking to the media during the colourful launch ceremony of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Champions League held here at Cricket Stadium.
Former Pakistan captain and league ambassador Shahid Afridi, KCL Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sohail Khan Kundi, cricket personalities, government representatives and a large number of cricket fans attended the event.
During the ceremony, the logos and official shirts of the six participating teams were unveiled.
The Governor said the league carried a message that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were peace-loving and rejected terrorism.
He said terrorism could be countered through positive thinking, promotion of sports and by providing opportunities to the youth to excel.
Kundi said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was blessed with immense cricket talent and players from the province were making significant contributions to the national cricket team. He added that six teams would compete for the title and the league would be organised as an annual event.
The Governor thanked Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and all the institutions that supported the organisation of the league, saying the initiative would help young players demonstrate their abilities and pave the way for their future careers.
Addressing the ceremony, KCL CEO Sohail Khan Kundi said the launch of the league would further promote sports among the youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and bring the province’s talented cricketers into the national spotlight.
He also thanked PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi for extending special support to the successful launch of the tournament.
