GILGIT, Jul 18 (APP):On the special directives of Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Secretary Arshad Majeed Mohmand, the district administration has launched a comprehensive cleanliness campaign to protect key tourist destinations in Diamer, particularly Fairy Meadows, Babusar Top and adjoining environmentally sensitive valleys, from pollution.
In view of the record influx of tourists and vehicles during the summer season, a joint task force comprising officials from the Diamer district administration, the Forest Department and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been constituted. The task force will conduct a three-day operation to ensure an effective solid waste management system in these high-altitude ecosystems.
Under the campaign, waste scattered around Babusar Top, the Karakoram Highway and the trekking routes leading to Fairy Meadows is being scientifically segregated and disposed of through environmentally friendly methods. The initiative aims to prevent non-biodegradable waste, including plastic bottles and cans, from harming wildlife, natural springs and the fragile mountain ecosystem.
The Gilgit-Baltistan government has urged all tourists to refrain from littering along highways and at recreational sites and to practice responsible tourism in order to help preserve the region’s natural beauty and ecological balance.
