Pakistan, Indonesia agree to expand trade, investment, economic cooperation

KARACHI, Jul 18 (APP):The Ambassador of Indonesia, Chandra Warsenanto Sukotjo, Saturday called on Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi and discussed bilateral relations, trade, investment, economic cooperation and promotion of mutual contacts between both the countries.
Both sides reiterated their commitment to significantly increase bilateral trade volume, further expand economic cooperation and give a new dimension to economic partnership, said a statement issued here.
The meeting, attended by the Indonesian Consul General in Karachi, MD Zakir, and other relevant officials, also discussed in detail the Pak-Indonesia bilateral relations, trade, investment, economic cooperation and promotion of mutual contacts.
The Governor Sindh said that Pakistani products, especially rice, mangoes, pharmaceutical products, surgical equipment and sports goods, have great potential in the global markets. He stressed that Pakistani rice should be introduced more effectively in other global markets, including Indonesia.
Highlighting the vast opportunities for cooperation in the agricultural sector, pharmaceuticals, surgical equipment and sports goods, he said that direct links between the private sector, joint investments and exchanges of trade delegations could significantly increase bilateral trade.
Nehal Hashmi emphasized that transforming the historical, religious and fraternal relations between Pakistan and Indonesia into a strong economic partnership is the need of the hour.
Indonesian Ambassador Chandra Warsenanto Sukotjo said that Pakistani rice, mangoes, medicines, surgical equipment and football were very popular in Indonesia.
Pakistan imports about 90% of its palm oil from Indonesia, while there was a vast potential to further promote trade, investment, industrial cooperation and economic ties between the two countries, he said and expressed his determination to further strengthen economic relations with Pakistan.
Later, the Indonesian envoy also penned down his impressions in the guest book at the Governor’s House.
