HYDERABAD, Jul 16 (APP):The Centre for Psychosocial and Academic Wellbeing at Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro on Thursday organized the lifespan health and mental wellbeing symposium 2026 under the theme “Beyond Disciplines, Beyond Age.”
According to the LUMHS spokesperson, the symposium was held under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Ikram Din Ujjan, Vice Chancellor, LUMHS and brought together renowned national experts in psychiatry, pediatrics, obstetrics & gynecology, palliative medicine and allied health sciences.
The event was chaired by Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Afridi (TI) from Jinnah Sindh Medical University, Karachi, who delivered the thematic lecture titled “From Early Development to Healthy Ageing: Integrating Physical and Mental Health Across the Lifespan.” Prof. Dr. Raza-ur-Rehman, Meritorious Professor of Psychiatry and Principal & Dean, Hamdard Medical University, Karachi attended as the special guest and delivered the keynote lecture on “Student Mental Health and Wellbeing: Creating Safe and Supportive Learning Environments.”
The event also welcomed delegates from Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi including Dr. Sidra Kaleem, Dr. Ayesha Malik and Dr. Ismat Jabeen. Their insightful presentations on child development, women’s mental health and healthy ageing through palliative care significantly enriched the scientific program.
The event was attended by faculty members, healthcare professionals, postgraduate trainees, undergraduate students, psychologists and allied health professionals from LUMHS and other institutions.
As part of the program, three pre-symposium workshops were successfully conducted on healthy digital habits, team-based care for children with neuro-developmental disorders and psychological first aid and student wellbeing. The symposium also featured mental health screening services, interactive wellbeing activities and educational games, promoting mental health awareness and encouraging active student participation.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Ikram Din Ujjan appreciated the initiative and emphasized the importance of integrating physical and mental health through multidisciplinary collaboration to strengthen healthcare education, research and service delivery. He commended the organizers for arranging a timely and impactful academic event and expressed hope that such initiatives would continue to promote holistic health and wellbeing across all stages of life.
