MULTAN, Jul 16 (APP): Three police officials were suspended on the orders of the Regional Police Officer (RPO)
for allegedly refusing to register an FIR lodged by a victim at Budhla Sunnat Police Station. According to official sources, Shamim Bibi approached Budhla Sunnat Police Station on July 10 to register an FIR against the accused, Ashfaq, and his accomplices for allegedly assaulting her. Following her complaint, the police constituted a medical board, which collected her medical samples. However, the samples were not sent to the forensic laboratory, and the FIR was allegedly not registered on the pretext of insufficient evidence. The alleged refusal to register the case left the woman deeply distressed, and she later died by suicide after consuming poisonous pills.
The matter was brought to the notice of the RPO, who ordered the suspension of SHO Budhla Sunnat
Azeem Zulfiqar, Sub-Inspector Waseem Abbas, and Moharrar Naeem for allegedly mishandling the case.
Meanwhile, on the directions of the Inspector General (IG) Punjab, DSP New Multan Irshad Baloch was also suspended. Police said the officers had been suspended pending a departmental inquiry, and the case would be investigated from all relevant angles. Authorities assured that justice would be ensured through all legal means and that, following the registration of the FIR, strict legal action would be taken against all those found responsible in accordance with the law.
