BISP chairperson urges greater investment in women to achieve sustainable development

ISLAMABAD, Jul 11 (APP): Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Senator Rubina Khalid Friday said empowering women economically remained fundamental to achieving sustainable development, strengthening families and building a prosperous society, stressing that equal opportunities for women could transform Pakistan’s growing population into a national asset.
In her message on World Population Day, she said the occasion highlighted the importance of sustainable development, human welfare and responsible planning.
Senator Rubina Khalid said BISP provides social protection to millions of deserving families, particularly women, across the country, while also promoting their financial inclusion and economic empowerment.
She said the programme not only extends financial assistance to deserving women but also enables them to become self-reliant and financially independent.
The chairperson emphasized that greater investment in education, healthcare and nutrition remained the most effective way to convert the country’s growing population into a productive national asset.
She said the present government continues to take effective measures for the welfare and empowerment of women and other vulnerable segments of society.
Senator Rubina Khalid said providing women with equal opportunities is indispensable for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
She called upon the nation to renew its commitment on World Population Day to building a Pakistan where every individual enjoys equal access to healthcare, education and opportunities for a dignified life.
