Mahasher fishlings released in natural water bodies of Orakzai district

PESHAWAR, Jul 10 (APP): Fisheries Department on Friday released thousands of Mahseer ( fish specie) fishlings in natural water bodies of Khwaja Khizar and Meshti Mela in the tribal District of Orakzai.
The Fisheries Department said that it marks the first organized Mahseer stocking initiative in the district and the merged tribal districts.
The stocking was carried out on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Orakzai Yousaf Ali as part of efforts to conserve prized freshwater fish species, restore aquatic ecosystems and promote sustainable fisheries.
The initiative aims to protect the Mahseer population, enhance biodiversity, maintain ecological balance and create opportunities for eco-tourism and community based fisheries in the region.
The district administration said the project could contribute to environmental conservation while supporting local livelihoods through fisheries development and promoting eco-tourism if the water bodies are adequately protected.
The fisheries department urged the residents to refrain from illegal fishing practices including the use of explosives and poisonous substances and cooperate in protecting natural water resources to ensure the survival and sustainable growth of Mahseer and other aquatic species.
