PAKMMAF launches Contender Series to strengthen Pakistan’s pathway to world stage

The Pakistan Mixed Martial Arts Federation (PAKMMAF) has officially launched the PAKMMAF Contender Series, a strategic high-performance platform designed to elevate the country’s MMA ecosystem.

ISLAMABAD, Jul 10 (APP): The Pakistan Mixed Martial Arts Federation (PAKMMAF) has officially launched the PAKMMAF Contender Series, a strategic high-performance platform designed to elevate the country’s MMA ecosystem.
Backed by Activist Dr. Rizwan Aftab, this initiative aims to bridge the gap between domestic competition and the intense demands of the international circuit. By providing top local athletes with consistent, elite-level exposure throughout the year, the federation ensures that Pakistani fighters are fully battle-tested and prepared to compete against mature MMA nations.
The inaugural one-day event features 12 elite fights showcasing some of the country’s brightest prospects. A major highlight of the series is the professional debut of Shahab Ali, the former IMMAF Asian Champion and 2025 IMMAF Fighter of the Year. Carefully developed under the guidance of PAKMMAF President Omar Ahmed, Ali is widely regarded as a premier talent with genuine potential to secure a contract with the UFC.
Beyond established athletes, the federation is aggressively expanding its youth development pipeline by entering the IMMAF Youth World Championships in Abu Dhabi for the first time. Leading this youth campaign is Category D competitor Aurezgzeb Ahmed, son of Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, who is viewed as a future star of the sport. His selection underscores the federation’s commitment to scouting elite talent early and providing them with critical international exposure from the onset of their careers.
This new series solidifies a highly structured athletic pathway that is unique within Pakistan’s sports landscape. Moving away from isolated events, PAKMMAF has established a clear route that begins at the grassroots level including schools, colleges, and universities and progresses through the Contender Series to continental and world championships. Exceptional athletes are then seamlessly transitioned into top-tier professional organizations such as BRAVE Combat Federation, UAE Warriors, and ACA, creating a sustainable ecosystem capable of producing world-class champions.
