PTI MNA Sohail Sultan’s disqualification case fixed for hearing on July 8

The Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan has fixed for hearing on July 8 a petition filed by Sohail Sultan challenging proceedings related to his alleged disqualification on the ground that he was a government employee.

ISLAMABAD, Jul 03 (APP): The Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan has fixed for hearing on July 8 a petition filed by Sohail Sultan challenging proceedings related to his alleged disqualification on the ground that he was a government employee.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi will hear the case. The court has issued notices to the Election Commission of Pakistan, the Attorney General and other respondents, seeking their replies.
In his petition, Sohail Sultan has challenged both the reference sent by the Speaker and the Election Commission’s jurisdiction to proceed with the matter. He contends that the Election Commission has no legal authority to initiate or continue proceedings in the case.
The matter arose before the general elections when the Election Commission initiated proceedings on a reference alleging that Sohail Sultan was serving as Assistant Advocate General, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and was therefore a government employee.
The Federal Constitutional Court had earlier restrained the Election Commission from taking further action against Sohail Sultan. The court will now hear arguments from the parties on July 8 before deciding the future course of the proceedings.
