PA Speaker meets Ombudspersons, reaffirms commitment to institutional collaboration
PESHAWAR, Jul 02 (APP): Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Babar Saleem Swati, held a meeting with the Provincial Ombudsperson for Protection against Harassment, Punjab, Dr Najma Afzal Khan, and the Provincial Ombudsperson for Protection against Harassment, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rabab Mehdi.
Secretary of the Provincial Assembly, Syed Wiqar Shah, senior officers of the Assembly Secretariat, and officials from both Ombudsperson Secretariats were also present.
The meeting focused on strengthening institutional collaboration, promoting good governance, enhancing inter-provincial coordination, and improving public service delivery.
The Speaker briefed the participants on the ongoing reforms in the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business, the Provincial Assembly Privileges Act, and the Assembly Secretariat’s paperless and digital governance initiatives.
The participants appreciated these reforms, describing them as significant steps towards greater efficiency, transparency, and institutional development.
The participants also reviewed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Provincial Ombudsperson Secretariat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, discussed preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) Conference, and emphasized continued cooperation between institutions.
Speaker Babar Saleem Swati further proposed hosting a national Ombudspersons’ Conference at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to promote dialogue and the exchange of best practices among Ombudsperson institutions across Pakistan. The proposal was warmly welcomed by both Provincial Ombudspersons.
Following the meeting, the delegation visited various sections of the Assembly Secretariat. The Speaker presented a commemorative shield to Dr Najma Afzal Khan in recognition of her services.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening institutional cooperation, promoting transparency, and advancing good governance.
