PAA Introduces Monsoon Safety Measures at Lahore Airport to Reduce Bird Hazard

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has introduced precautionary operational measures at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore as part of its annual monsoon safety plan to reduce the increased risk of bird strikes during the rainy season.

ISLAMABAD, Jul 01 (APP): The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has introduced precautionary operational measures at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore as part of its annual monsoon safety plan to reduce the increased risk of bird strikes during the rainy season.
According to a PAA Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), bird activity in and around the airport, particularly below 3,000 feet, rises significantly during the monsoon. Pilots have therefore been advised to exercise heightened caution during aircraft approach and departure, while airlines have been instructed to carry sufficient fuel to accommodate any expected ground or airborne holding.
As part of the safety measures, both runways will remain unavailable daily from 5:01 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. (Pakistan Standard Time) from July 5 to September 15, 2026, when bird activity is at its peak. Scheduled commercial flights will continue to operate outside these hours.
The PAA clarified that the temporary runway closure is a precautionary measure aimed at enhancing flight safety and minimizing the risk of bird strikes during periods of heightened bird movement.
The authority also confirmed that runway access will be provided immediately for emergency landings whenever required.
The PAA said the seasonal measures reflect its continued commitment to maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety while minimizing disruption to passengers and airline operations.
