Punjab launches registration drive to promote organic farming

The Punjab government has launched a province-wide registration campaign for organic farmers, farms, producers and suppliers as part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision to promote safe food, modern agriculture and farmer-friendly policies.

LAHORE, Jun 29 (APP): The Punjab government has launched a province-wide registration campaign for organic farmers, farms, producers and suppliers as part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision to promote safe food, modern agriculture and farmer-friendly policies.
The registration drive, initiated by the Punjab Agricultural Marketing Regulatory Authority (PAMRA), aims to strengthen direct marketing of organic produce, improve farmers’ access to markets and ensure consumers’ access to safe, high-quality and certified organic food.
The initiative seeks to encourage organic farming by enabling producers of organic vegetables, fruits, pulses, grains, herbs and other agricultural products to connect directly with consumers.
Officials say the programme is expected to enhance farmers’ incomes while increasing public confidence in certified organic products.
Secretary Food Safety and Consumer Protection Dr Kiran Khursheed said the registration campaign would help establish a comprehensive database of certified organic producers, improve market linkages and provide consumers with reliable access to quality organic products.
She said the initiative would strengthen the organic value chain, promote transparency and traceability in the agriculture sector and create better marketing opportunities for farmers across Punjab.
Dr. Kiran Khursheed urged organic farmers, farms, producers and suppliers across the province to complete their registration and become part of the programme to benefit from the proposed direct marketing platform.
Officials said the initiative marks an important step towards promoting a modern, sustainable and safe agricultural system in Punjab while supporting farmers’ economic empowerment and improving the availability of quality organic food for consumers.
