Makkah: Annual Ka’bah washing ceremony to be held on 15th Muharram
According to Saudi media, this blessed process is carried out with profound devotion and strict adherence to established Islamic traditions and administrative protocols. The ceremony commences with the opening of the golden door of the Baytullah in the presence of the Keeper of the Ka’bah (Sadin), followed by the entry of the Governor of Makkah and the esteemed guests into the interior.
Prior to the ceremony, the General Authority for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques prepares a special solution comprising large quantities of blessed Zamzam water, premium rose water from Taif, and high-quality pure Oud oil.
The cleansing of the interior involves a combination of traditional and modern methods. White cotton and silk cloths are soaked in the scented mixture of Zamzam and rose water, and are used to gently clean the interior walls and marble columns of the Ka’bah. The marble floor is washed with a mixture of Zamzam water and rose water, then dried using palm fronds and specialized wipers.
Once the washing is complete, the interior walls, columns, and corners are dried with towels and anointed with musk, amber, and precious perfumes, followed by the application of pure Oud incense, which fills the environment with a serene fragrance. This ceremony serves as a living legacy of the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who performed this act during the Conquest of Makkah, a tradition that the Saudi government continues to uphold with great majesty each year.
