NCCIA busts cyber fraud network targeting citizens through social media

LAHORE, Jun 27 (APP):The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on Saturday arrested two alleged members of the notorious ‘Oad Gang’ for their suspected involvement in defrauding citizens through fake prize schemes and parcel delivery scams carried out via social media.
According to an NCCIA spokesperson,the operation was conducted by the agency’s Multan team under the directives of Director NCCIA Punjab Muhammad Ali Waseem,who termed the arrests a significant breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown against cyber crime.
The arrested suspects,Ali Raza and Muhammad Aslam, both residents of Khanewal, allegedly lured victims by falsely claiming they had won cash prizes,donations or expensive gifts through social media platforms.
The suspects allegedly impersonated customs officials and courier representatives,convincing victims to transfer money on the pretext of customs duties,clearance charges and other fabricated fees before receiving the purported prizes or parcels.
An FIR (No.105/26),dated June 24,2026 has been registered against the suspects under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016, as amended in 2025 and the Pakistan Penal Code.
The raid was carried out in Chak No.157/10-R in Jahanian tehsil, Khanewal district, under the supervision of Assistant Director Adnan.
During the operation, officials recovered two mobile phones from the suspects, which have been taken into custody for forensic analysis.
Director NCCIA Punjab Muhammad Ali Waseem lauded the performance of the investigation team and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to continuing indiscriminate action against cyber fraudsters and online scammers targeting the public.
He said those involved in such offenses would be brought to justice.
