Defence Minister Khawaja Asif leads central Ashura procession

SIALKOT, Jun 26 (APP):Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Friday led the central Youm-e-Ashura mourning procession at Adda Pasrurian and attended a Majlis-e-Aza at Mistri Abdullah Imambargah in Beriwala Chowk.
Punjab Minister for Labour and Human Resource Muhammad Manshaullah Butt accompanied the defence minister during the visit.
Deputy Commissioner(DC),Saba Asghar Ali and District Police Officer(DPO),Dost Muhammad briefed the ministers on security,traffic management,sanitation and other administrative arrangements made across the district for Muharram.
Speaking to the media, Khawaja Asif said this year’s Muharram was being observed at a time when the region was facing the impact of the recent conflict.
He paid tribute to the resilience of the Iranian people, saying their steadfastness had revived the spirit of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and the martyrs of Karbala.
He said Pakistan’s role during the recent conflict would be remembered in history and described the unity being displayed by Muslim countries on the occasion of Ashura as unprecedented.
He also expressed hope that Palestine would achieve independence and that Lebanon would be free from Israeli aggression.
The minister said the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and the martyrs of Karbala continued to inspire Muslims, adding that the perseverance shown by the Palestinian people reflected the message of Karbala.
He prayed for lasting unity among Muslim countries and for peace and freedom in Kashmir and Palestine.
Deputy Commissioner(DC),Saba Asghar Ali said 87 mourning processions were being taken out across the district on the 10th of Muharram.
She said more than 410 CCTV cameras were monitoring processions and religious gatherings while a 24-hour monitoring room established at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office had been linked with the Punjab Home Department’s central monitoring cell.
She added that sabeels and heatstroke camps had been set up along procession routes to facilitate mourners.
DPO Dost Muhammad said more than 2,600 police personnel had been deployed to provide security during Muharram.
He added that rooftop security had also been strengthened while personnel from the Army,Rangers and volunteers were assisting in maintaining law and order across the district.
