Over 2,500 cops deployed for Ashura security

SARGODHA, Jun 26 (APP):Tight security arrangements have been put in place across the district for Ashura (10th Muharram) on the instructions of District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Sohaib Ashraf,with more than 2,500 police personnel deployed to ensure peaceful observance and maintain law and order,here on Friday.
According to a police spokesperson,a total of 214 processions will be taken out across the district, including 27 Category A,32 Category B and 155 Category C processions. Besides, 224 majalis will be held at various locations.
The spokesperson said all processions and religious gatherings would be monitored through CCTV surveillance and Safe City cameras while an additional police reserve force would remain on standby at the Police Lines to respond to any emergency.
In the city,three main Ashura processions will originate from 5 Block,19 Block and Maqam-e-Hayat.
They will converge at Gol Chowk before proceeding as a unified procession to Imambargah 7 Block.
Following Friday prayers,the main procession will resume from Imambargah 7 Block and culminate at Karbala Manzil after passing through its traditional route.
Rescue 1122 and Civil Defence teams have also been deployed along the procession routes to provide emergency assistance if required.
The district police have also prepared a comprehensive traffic management plan to ensure smooth vehicular movement and facilitate commuters.
The traffic arrangements will be supervised directly by the DSP Traffic.
Speaking on the occasion,DPO Muhammad Sohaib Ashraf said maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of mourners remained the police’s top priority.
He warned that no negligence in implementing the security plan would be tolerated.
Police officials expressed confidence that the coordinated security and traffic measures would help ensure the peaceful observance of Ashura across the district.
