Punjab minister reviews Muharram security, arrangements during Rawalpindi visit

RAWALPINDI, Jun 25 (APP):Provincial Minister for Communication & Works Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth reviewed security and civic arrangements for Muharram during a visit to Rawalpindi on Thursday, inspecting the central procession route, monitoring facilities and Raja Bazaar to assess the city’s preparedness for the religious observance.
Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Tahira Aurangzeb, City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani, Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Captain (Retd.) Shahryar Shirazi, Assistant Commissioner City Iman Zafar, Assistant Commissioner Saddar Hakim Khan and other officials were also present on the occassion.
During the visit, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema briefed the minister on security measures, traffic management, sanitation arrangements, medical services, facilitation centres and other preparations made for Muharram-ul-Haram.
Officials informed the minister that the district administration, police, Rescue 1122, health department, WASA, Municipal Corporation, RWMC and other relevant institutions are working round the clock to ensure public safety and provide maximum facilities to mourners.
The minister reviewed cleanliness measures, street lighting, drainage systems, traffic management plans, CCTV surveillance and other civic arrangements along the procession route.
At the Safe City and Central Control Rooms, he inspected modern monitoring systems and was given a briefing on surveillance arrangements for processions and religious gatherings.
Officials informed him that sensitive locations and processions are being continuously monitored through advanced cameras and surveillance systems, while special control rooms have been activated to ensure effective coordination among all departments.
Expressing satisfaction over the arrangements, Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth said that, in line with the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, ensuring peace, security and the provision of all possible facilities to mourners remains the government’s top priority during Muharram.
He said the district administration, police and all concerned departments had made comprehensive preparations and expressed confidence that Muharram events would be held in a peaceful environment. He directed authorities to ensure uninterrupted provision of sanitation services, lighting, drinking water, medical assistance and other public facilities at procession and congregation sites.
The minister further instructed all relevant departments to remain on high alert and strengthen coordination mechanisms to effectively respond to any emergency situation. He emphasized the importance of promoting inter-sect harmony, brotherhood and religious tolerance, highlighting the vital role of religious scholars, peace committees and representatives of all schools of thought.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order, he said the Punjab government, district administration and law enforcement agencies are utilizing all available resources to ensure the peaceful observance of Muharram and safeguard the lives and property of citizens
