PFA imposes Rs 1.15 mln fine over food safety, SOP violations

RAWALPINDI, Jun 24 (APP):On the directions of the Director General of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA), teams carried out crackdown against the production and sale of substandard and unsafe food, taking action at 14 locations, imposing heavy fines and sealing several production units.
According to a PFA spokesperson, the operations were conducted as part of an ongoing special campaign targeting the adulteration mafia and businesses that violate food safety and hygiene standards.
During the crackdown, fines amounting to Rs1.15 million were imposed for violations of PFA laws, poor sanitation conditions and the preparation of substandard food products.
The spokesperson said food items worth approximately Rs 20 million were destroyed on the spot during the operations. The confiscated products included 10,950 litres of counterfeit soft drinks, 1,300 litres of adulterated milk, 30,000 sachets of gutka, 250 kilograms of unhygienic meat and 425 kilograms of banned Chinese salt.
PFA teams also sealed seven production units found to be involved in food safety violations and the preparation of unhealthy food products.
In addition, legal proceedings were initiated against those endangering public health, and the four First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered.
He said indiscriminate action against the adulteration mafia would continue and warned that no leniency would be shown towards those compromising public health.
He urged citizens to report food-related complaints, information or illegal activities through the Punjab Food Authority helpline 1223 to enable timely action by the authorities.
